Material Modification

The purpose of surface modification is to modify the outermost layer of a material by inserting some functional groups onto the surface in order to improve its barrier properties, wettability, printability and dye uptake, its resistance to glazing, its adhesion to other materials, or its interaction with a biological environment, while maintaining the desirable bulk properties of the materials. This modification is usually performed on solid materials, but it is possible to find examples of modifications to specific liquid surfaces. Surface modification provides unlimited possibilities for material's application in various fields such as biomedical, industrial, agricultural, electronics, etc. Traditionally, methods for the surface modification of materials are divided into chemical, physical, and biological methods. However, most of these methods tend to suffer from (at least one of) being expensive, restricted to batch processing, and safety hazards. Click chemistry is one of the chemical methods used for surface modification, which can reduce the occurrence of these problems due to its high efficiency, solvent insensitivity, mild reaction conditions, and no by-products. At present, the surface modification of polymers and nanomaterials is two of the most important applications of click chemistry. Alfa Chemistry is an expert in click chemistry. We provide you with technical support and services so that you explore the application of click chemistry in material modification.
