Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) are ideal for display backlighting due to their excellent color purity. In this work, lead hydroxide (Pb(OH)2) was employed as the foundational lead source to synthesize CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots. This strategic substitution replaced the conventional PbBr2 precursor. The synthesis was further enhanced by introducing La3+ doping into the Pb(OH)2-derived PQD system. The resulting quantum dots were processed into a composite light conversion film encapsulated within a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) matrix.
Replacing PbBr2 with Pb(OH)2 successfully reduced raw material costs by nearly 50%, addressing a major barrier to industrialization. The Pb(OH)2-based synthesis led to a reduction in bromine vacancy formation, improving the intrinsic optical properties. Subsequent La3+ doping further boosted the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 48% to 86%. The final film demonstrated exceptional stability, retaining 87% of its photoluminescence intensity under prolonged harsh conditions (40 days at 60°C, 90% relative humidity, and continuous high-intensity blue light exposure).
The fabricated CsPbBr3&CsPbBr1I2@glass@PET film achieved a wide color gamut, covering 94.75% of the NTSC 1953 and 70.74% of the Rec.2020 color space standards. Applied to LCD screens, these films significantly enhanced color performance.
