This study evaluated the experimental application of vitamin K1 (5 mg/kg, twice weekly) in male Wistar rats with streptozotocin (35 mg/kg)-induced type 1 diabetes. Over three months, blood glucose was monitored monthly, and renal function was assessed post-mortem through measurements of urea, uric acid, creatinine, albumin, and insulin. Kidneys were analyzed for oxidative stress markers, antioxidant levels, aldose reductase activity, and membrane ATPases, alongside histopathology and cytokine profiling. Vitamin K1 treatment reduced hyperglycemia, mitigated microalbuminuria, decreased oxidative stress, and inhibited renal inflammation via downregulation of NF-κB and iNOS, while increasing IL-10. The study demonstrates that vitamin K1 exerts protective renal effects through its hypoglycemic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory actions.
