Prochloraz-manganese chloride complex (prochloraz-Mn) is a broad-spectrum fungicide that effectively inhibits Cladobotryum mycophilum, the causal agent of cobweb disease in Agaricus bisporus. It offers strong antifungal activity without harming mushroom growth or exceeding residue limits.
Experimental Protocol: Toxicity of prochloraz-Mn against C. mycophilum was assessed by mycelial growth inhibition on amended media. Field trials were conducted in mushroom growing rooms using 400 mg/L prochloraz-Mn. Residues in fruiting bodies were determined by extraction followed by chromatography.
Performance Evaluation: Prochloraz-Mn showed high inhibitory activity against C. mycophilum mycelium, with an EC50 of 0.939 mg/L. At 400 mg/L in the field, disease control efficacy reached 61.38%. The fungicide did not adversely affect mycelial growth or fruiting body development of A. bisporus. Residue analysis showed final concentrations of 1.325 mg/kg after 9 days at 250 mL/m², below the maximum residue limit. Prochloraz-Mn remained effective even against strains where resistance to other fungicides (e.g., metrafenone) has emerged.
Conclusion: Prochloraz-manganese chloride complex is a safe, efficient fungicide for managing cobweb disease in white button mushroom, suitable for integrated disease management programs.

Prochloraz manganese (PM) is an ergosterol biosynthesis-inhibiting fungicide effective against Mycogone perniciosa, the causal agent of wet bubble disease in white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). When combined with sodium bicarbonate (SBC), a reduced dose of PM provides disease control comparable to the full label dose while minimizing fungicide input.
Experimental Protocol: In vitro inhibition of M. perniciosa by SBC was tested on PDA and in spore germination assays. In vivo experiments (seven trials) were conducted in polyethylene growing bags. Treatments were applied to casing soil by drenching twice (2 h before casing and 2 days after casing). PM was used at label dose (120 g/100 m²) or 10% reduced dose (12 g/100 m²), alone or combined with SBC (266 g/100 m²). Yield and sclerodermoid mass were recorded after first and second flushes.
Performance Evaluation: In vitro, SBC at 4% completely inhibited conidial germination. In vivo, the combination of reduced-dose PM with SBC gave disease control and yield increases not significantly different from the full label dose of PM alone in three repeated experiments. For example, in Experiment 6, the combination reduced sclerodermoid mass to 309 g (control: 1048 g) and increased yield to 3483 g (control: 1274 g). SBC alone showed inconsistent efficacy. The pH of casing soil increased by ~1 unit after SBC application.
Conclusion: Prochloraz manganese at a reduced dose combined with sodium bicarbonate effectively controls wet bubble disease, offering a potential strategy to lower fungicide use.
