Toldimfos sodium represents the sodium salt version of 4-dimethylamino-2-methyl-phenyl-phosphinous acid which belongs to the family of phosphoric acid derivatives. This medication helps prevent and treat conditions occurring during the parturition and peri-partum period and addresses developmental and nutritional problems in young animals along with bone growth disorders and calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus metabolism-related tetany or paresis. The standard dosage requires 10 mg/kg delivered through intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injections with the possibility of up to 10 repeated doses depending on clinical response. Toldimfos is indicated for use in the following food producing species: horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and goats.
Researchers created and validated a simple UV spectrophotometric technique that accurately measures residual levels of toltinofolate sodium used in veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturing. The analytical procedure combined the use of a UV spectrophotometer-2600 with an analytical electronic balance CP-225D operating at a validation wavelength of 270 nm and scanning the spectrum from 200 to 400 nm while utilizing HPLC-grade water as the diluent. The analytical approach demonstrated selectivity for the detection of Toldimfos sodium stage-II (TDSI/02A) residuals while maintaining linearity throughout the operational range. We developed a precise sampling technique for rinse and swab recoveries and documented the system suitability test.
The condition of severe acute hypophosphatemia happens infrequently in dogs. This case report details a seven-year-old Greyhound that presented with a sudden onset of rapid breathing. The examination showed high rectal temperature and congested mucous membranes along with pain when bending the right hind leg and muscle twitching. The hematology and plasma biochemistry tests showed normal results except for severe hypophosphataemia and significantly elevated creatine kinase levels.
Treatment involved an intravenous infusion of Toldimfos sodium, a phosphorus preparation. Treatment successfully corrected the hypophosphataemia in a short time period and clinical symptoms showed improvement throughout the subsequent five days. The underlying cause of the severe hypophosphataemia remains unclear.
This case illustrates that severe acute hypophosphataemia can be effectively managed with Toldimfos sodium infusion, leading to a favorable long-term outcome, even in dogs exhibiting significant clinical distress at presentation.
