Rhodamine 6G for Harmonic Mode-Locked Pulse Generation in Thulium-Holmium Doped Fiber Lasers

Rhodamine 6G fluorescent dye as a saturable absorber for harmonic mode-locked pulses generation in thulium-holmium doped fiber lasers Ahmad H, et al. Optical Fiber Technology, 2025, 95, 104438.

Rhodamine 6G was employed as an organic dye-based saturable absorber (SA) to achieve passive mode-locking in thulium-holmium-doped fiber lasers operating in the 2 μm wavelength region. The SA was prepared by dissolving 50 mg of rhodamine 6G powder in 5 mL of ethanol to obtain a 10 mg/mL solution, followed by 20 min ultrasonic treatment to ensure homogeneous dispersion. The resulting material was deposited onto an arc-shaped fiber host, allowing effective interaction between the evanescent optical field and the rhodamine 6G layer. Field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed spiral-like surface morphology with nanocrystalline features. The rhodamine 6G SA exhibited a modulation depth of 15.2%, enabling stable fundamental mode-locked pulses at 14.6 MHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 68.7 dB. Increasing pump power produced harmonic mode-locked pulses up to the 9th harmonic (131.6 MHz), demonstrating the efficiency of rhodamine 6G as a low-cost optical modulator.

Rhodamine 6G for DNAzyme-Amplified Ratiometric Fluorescent Detection of Copper Ions

Ratiometric fluorometric detection and cell imaging of copper ions based on carbon dots, rhodamine 6G and gold nanoparticles with DNAzyme-mediated signal amplification Chen X, et al. Microchemical Journal, 2025, 217, 115022.

Rhodamine 6G was utilized as a fluorescent signaling component in a DNAzyme-amplified ratiometric fluorescence system for sensitive Cu²⁺ detection and intracellular imaging. In the probe construction, rhodamine 6G was covalently modified with MB-DNA through carbodiimide coupling. Specifically, 20 μL of 0.2 mg/mL rhodamine 6G was activated in MES buffer (pH 6.3) using EDC and NHS, followed by incubation with MB-DNA at 37 °C for 2 h to generate Rh6G-DNA conjugates. In parallel, carbon dots were functionalized with aDNA using similar EDC/NHS chemistry to produce aDNA-B-CDs. After purification by ultrafiltration, the two components were assembled into a DNAzyme-mediated sensing platform. Upon exposure to Cu²⁺, catalytic DNA cleavage triggered fluorescence signal changes between carbon dots and rhodamine 6G, enabling ratiometric detection. The system exhibited a linear response from 0.01-15 μM with a detection limit of 5 nM and enabled in situ imaging of intracellular copper ions.
