2-Hydroxydodecanoic acid (HYA) was synthesized and applied as a highly hydrophobic ligand in a synergistic solvent extraction system with trioctylamine (TOA) for boric acid recovery. In the experimental setup, HYA was dissolved in an organic diluent together with TOA, forming a mixed extractant phase. Aqueous solutions containing H₃BO₃ were contacted with the organic phase under controlled pH conditions, followed by phase separation and boron analysis. The extraction mechanism was investigated by evaluating ligand structure effects and by characterizing boron coordination states in the organic phase. Results demonstrated that HYA, featuring an alcoholic hydroxyl and a carboxyl group, promotes the formation of a stable anionic complex with a B(4)-O coordination environment. The TOA/HYA system achieved approximately 80% single-stage extraction efficiency, with a consistent H₃BO₃:HYA stoichiometric ratio of 1:2, highlighting the effectiveness of HYA in boric acid extraction and isotope separation studies.
