Benzyl pyridinium chloride (BPC) was experimentally evaluated as a synergistic corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in simulated H₂S/CO₂/NaCl environments. Weight loss measurements quantified long-term corrosion rates, while potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were applied to elucidate inhibition mechanisms and charge-transfer resistance. Surface morphology and film composition were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Surface tension measurements assessed interfacial activity and adsorption behavior. When combined with cationic surfactants, BPC exhibited strong synergism through co-adsorption, effectively sealing defects in the inhibitor film and significantly enhancing surface coverage. These experimental methods collectively demonstrated BPC's critical role in forming a compact, protective inhibitive layer under sour corrosion conditions.
