Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a semicrystalline thermoplastic polyester formed by the polymerization of terephthalic acid (or dimethyl terephthalate) and ethylene glycol. It is one of the most widely used engineering plastics worldwide, prized for its excellent mechanical strength, transparency, chemical resistance, and ease of processing.
PET's excellent dimensional stability and gas and moisture barrier properties make it a preferred material for packaging, textiles, films, and engineered components. PET in granule or powder form can be processed by extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming, and other methods, or used as a feedstock for polymer research and advanced materials development.

Excellent tensile and impact strength, suitable for structural applications and testing.
Ideal for optical and packaging research requiring high clarity.
Effective barrier to gases and moisture, suitable for packaging and film research.
Maintains performance even at high temperatures.
Resistant to a wide range of solvents, oils, and chemicals, ensuring durability in a variety of environments.
A thermoplastic material that can be melt-reformed and recycled; ideal for circular materials research.

Alfa Chemistry's PET powders and granules are designed for scientific research and laboratories, providing reliable, high-purity materials for a wide range of experimental studies.

Polymer Processing and Molding Research
Researchers use PET granules and powders to investigate extrusion, injection molding, and thermoforming processes. The consistent particle size and thermal stability of these materials enable controlled studies of the crystallization behavior, melt flow characteristics, and mechanical properties of PET-based samples.

Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing Research
Fine PET powders are ideal for powder-based 3D printing technologies such as SLS or binder jetting. Researchers can explore process optimization, interlayer adhesion, and post-processing to develop high-performance 3D-printed polymer components.

Packaging Material Testing and Performance Evaluation
PET's barrier properties, clarity, and mechanical strength make it a preferred material for investigating novel packaging concepts. Research applications include permeation testing, structural integrity assessment, and optical clarity evaluation of food, pharmaceutical, or technical packaging.

Surface Modification and Coating Experiments
PET powder can serve as a substrate for functional coating, surface grafting, or plasma treatment studies, helping scientists develop materials with enhanced hydrophobicity, adhesion, or chemical resistance.

Composite Material Development
PET powder is often added to polymer blends, reinforced composites, and hybrid materials to evaluate its mechanical reinforcement, thermal stability, or compatibility with fillers and additives.

Barrier Property Analysis and Film Preparation
PET's excellent gas and moisture resistance makes it suitable for membrane research, filtration studies, and barrier testing, supporting innovations in water treatment, gas separation, and packaging technologies.
Alfa Chemistry offers PET powders and granules in a variety of particle sizes, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of research applications.

Thermoplastic processing (extrusion, injection molding, and thermoforming) is typically performed in the 240–280°C range. The specific temperature should be determined based on the equipment, sample volume, and formulation optimization.
Dehumidification and drying are recommended before processing to prevent hydrolysis and molecular weight loss. Drying at 80–120°C for several hours is generally recommended, with the specific time depending on the powder mesh size and moisture content.
Can be blended with toughening agents, flame retardants, fillers, colorants, or coupling agents for composite research and property control.
Select appropriate mesh size and particle size distribution to ensure smooth powder flow and interlayer bonding. Ultrafine powders should be carefully considered for their agglomeration and hygroscopicity.
Alfa Chemistry is proud to show you successful application examples of our PET powders.

What is the difference between PET granule and PET powder?
PET granules are small, cylindrical or spherical particles suitable for extrusion, molding, or lab-scale compounding studies. PET powder is a finely ground particle ideal for research applications such as 3D printing, film fabrication, and surface modification experiments.
How do I choose the right mesh?
The choice depends on the end use: Lamination and fluidity requirements (such as SLS) generally require a narrowly distributed, medium particle size; powder coating or modification experiments may require a finer powder. If you are unsure, please provide the application and processing method, and we will recommend an appropriate specification.
Can you provide a physical property test report (COA)?
Yes. For formal orders or sample requests, we can provide standard test data or customized testing with the product (for an additional fee).
Do you provide technical support and process guidance?
We provide basic process recommendations and material property descriptions for research purposes; complex process optimization is available as a paid service.
Can I purchase a small amount of PET powder for research purposes?
Yes. Alfa Chemistry specializes in flexible, lab-scale PET powders and granules designed for R&D teams, universities, and small projects.
Can Alfa Chemistry provide custom PET powders or granules?
Yes. If you require a specific particle size, modified granules, or other custom specifications, Alfa Chemistry offers custom processing services to meet your research needs.
Are Alfa Chemistry's PET powders suitable for 3D printing?
Yes. Fine PET powders are compatible with powder-based 3D printing technologies, such as SLS, and can be used to study interlayer adhesion, sintering behavior, and post-processing.
