Polybenzimidazole (PBI) powder is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer widely recognized for its exceptional thermal resistance, outstanding chemical stability, and superior mechanical strength. Unlike conventional thermoplastics, PBI retains its dimensional integrity and mechanical performance at temperatures exceeding 400 °C and under chemically aggressive environments.
PBI powder is produced via a high-temperature polycondensation reaction between aromatic tetraamines—such as 3,3′-diaminobenzidine (DAB)—and aromatic dicarboxylic acid derivatives, commonly diphenyl isophthalate or isophthalic acid. The synthesis process is carried out under strictly controlled conditions to promote optimal chain growth and to achieve desired polymer properties. After polymerization, the PBI is precipitated, thoroughly washed, dried, and milled into a fine powder with a consistent and well-controlled particle size and molecular weight distribution.
At Alfa Chemistry, our PBI powders are engineered with narrow molecular weight distributions, offering high consistency and performance reproducibility. We supply PBI powders with molecular weights of 60,000, 100,000, 200,000, and higher, depending on the specific application needs.
Our high-molecular-weight PBI powders are specifically optimized for applications such as:

| Catalog | Product | Molecular Weight | Solubility and Film Forming | Thermal Stability |
| PL-PBI-A001 | PBI Powder | 60,000 g/mol | Excellent | ≥450℃ |
| PL-PBI-A002 | PBI Powder | 100,000 g/mol | Excellent | ≥450℃ |
| PL-PBI-A003 | PBI Powder | 200,000 g/mol | Excellent | ≥450℃ |
*PBI powder with other molecular weights can be custom-synthesized according to customer requirements.
