Organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) are used in agriculture and animal husbandry for crop protection and control of ectoparasites. However, due to their wide range of uses, they have been found in groundwater, surface water, and drinking water, and there is a need to monitor OPs in drinking water. This work compared the performance of solid phase microextraction (SPME) and traditional solid phase extraction (SPE) techniques for the detection of eight OPs in water, including O,O,O-triethylphosphorothioate. The results show that the SPME method has higher sensitivity than SPE and also has the characteristics of a solvent-free sampling technique.
Sample Preparation and SPME Procedure
· The organophosphorus (OP) pesticides included in the stock standard mixture of eight organophosphorus compounds include disulfoton, famphur, methylparathion, ethyl parathion, phorate, sulfotep, thionazin, O,O,O-triethylphosphorothioate.
· The SPME procedure involved direct extraction, where the fiber was immersed in 5 mL water samples containing target analytes at a concentration of 10 ng.mL1 and stirred at 2500 rpm. The impact of varying extraction time (10 to 80 min), extraction temperature (40°C to 70°C), and ionic strength (0% to 20% NaCl) on extraction efficiency was explored using two commercially available SPME fiber coatings: polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyacrylate (PA).
