Application

This compound is predominantly used in applications requiring resistance to water solubility but is vulnerable to decomposition by nitric acid. Its oxidation into copper(II) sulfate in moist environments is hastened by alkaline conditions. Primarily, Copper(II) sulfide finds utility in antifouling paints, aiding in the protection of marine vessels. It also plays a significant role in textile printing, particularly in the development of aniline black dyes, and acts as an oxidizing agent and a varnish pigment. Moreover, this compound is integral to the composition of mixed catalysts, participates in the production of thin-film solar cells along with cadmium sulfide, and contributes to the functionality of solid-state electrodes. As a moderate conductor of electricity, it is further employed in photovoltaic systems, enhancing their performance.
