Hybrid membranes were synthesized using 1,4-bis(triethoxysilyl)benzene (BTESB) with (3-glycidoxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) via epoxy polymerization and silanol condensation. Two compositions-100BTESB and 50BTESB-50GPTMS-were prepared by dissolving precursors in absolute ethanol (ethanol/BTESB = 20) with 1 N HCl, stirred at room temperature for 15-90 min. Water/BTESB ratios of 4 and 8 were evaluated, and partial ethanol substitution with formamide was also tested. Solutions were cast in glass and PTFE molds, gelled at room temperature, and cured at 150 °C (0.1 °C min⁻¹). Sulfonation with 0.3 M HSO3Cl or (CH3)3SiSO3Cl in 1,2-dichloroethane introduced SO3H groups, followed by washing and drying at 50 °C. Thermal and conductivity analyses revealed high water adsorption and proton conductivity up to 8.5 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ at 100-150 °C, demonstrating the experimental efficiency of BTESB-based membranes for proton-conducting applications.
