Polymer/Macromolecule

Polymer/MacromoleculeAlfa Chemistry offers a wide range of different polymer/macromolecule, especially functional polymers; we can also supply a wide variety of monomers and intermediates as building blocks for functional polymers, which are surely useful for the development of novel polymers.

Polymer is a chemical compound or mixture of molecules which are bonded together in long repeating structural units. These materials and polymers have unique properties and can be tailored depending on their intended purpose.

There are many species of polymers. By source, polymers can be divided into natural polymer (e.g. cellulose, protein, silk, rubber, starch) and synthetic polymer (e.g. polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, phenolic resin). According to the performance of materials, the polymer can be divided into plastic (e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene), rubber (e.g. nylon, polyester, acrylic and vinylon) and fiber (e.g. butadiene rubber, isoprene rubber and ethylene propylene rubber). By application, polymers include general polymer, engineering materials, functional polymers, biomimetic polymers, medical polymers, polymer drugs, polymer reagents, polymer catalysts and biological polymers.

General polymer means the common use of polymer materials, like Polypropylene (PP), Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC), nylon.

Engineering materials are those polymer materials with special properties (such as high temperature and radiation resistance, etc.). Such as polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, polyimides, polyarylethers, polyaramides and fluorine-containing macromolecules, boron-containing polymers are mature varieties, which have been widely used as engineering materials.

Functional polymers are polymers prepared from synthesis or natural polymer. This type of polymers is based on their original mechanical properties and developed a variety of specific functions (such as chemical activity, photosensitivity, conductivity, catalytic activity, biocompatibility, pharmacological properties, and selection classification performance). In general, functional groups display on the main chain or side chain of a functional polymer. The function of functional polymers is not only determined by the chemical structure of the polymer chain, the sequence distribution of the structural units, the molecular weight and its distribution, branched, three-dimensional structure and other primary structure, but also determined by the conformation of polymer chains, polymer chains in the aggregation of high-level structure, the latter is more important for the display of biological activity. There are many types of functional polymers including photosensitive polymer, electrical functional polymer, catalytic functional polymer, selection and separation functional polymer, medical polymer. For example, photosensitive resin is widely used in printing plate, photoresist, photosensitive ink and photosensitive paint and so on. Medical polymer can be applied in the manufacture of artificial tissues and artificial organs. Also used as a carrier, adjuvant or pharmacologically active substances.

Functional polymer can be widely used in other fields, thus R&D in this area is very promising.
