3D printing has revolutionized the manufacturing process and is transforming the world, which transform the design ideas quickly into real, especially ones with complex structure which is complicate to produce. At this stage, there are two factors to limit the development of 3D printing technology——printing materials and equipment. Currently the main 3D printing material include engineering plastics, photosensitive resin, rubber materials, photosensitive materials, ceramic materials and metallic material and in the form of powder, filamentous, lamellar and liquid-like.

Engineering plastics have excellent strength, hardness, impact resistance, resistance and anti-aging property, like ABS, PC-like materials, PLA, nylon-like materials.

The photosensitive resin consists of polymer monomer and prepolymer, which can cause the polymerization reaction to complete the curing immediately under the irradiation of ultraviolet light of certain wavelength. For example, somos NEXT, resin somos11122, somos19120 and epoxy resin.

Rubber materials possess a variety of levels of elasticity. The hardness, elongation at break, tear resistance and tensile strength of rubber make them ideal for applications requiring anti-skid or soft surfaces. The rubber products for 3D printing are mainly used for electronics, medical equipment and automotive interior, tires, gaskets and so on.

Ceramic materials, with high strength, high hardness, high temperature resistance, low density, chemical stability, corrosion resistance and other excellent features, have a wide range of applications in the aerospace, automotive, biotechnology and other industries.

Metallic material: 3D printing metal parts has been the focus of research and application. The metal powder used in 3D printing generally require high purity, good sphericity, narrow particle size distribution and low oxygen content. At present, the metal powder materials used in 3D printing are mainly titanium alloy, cobalt-chromium alloy, stainless steel and aluminum alloy materials. In addition, there are still gold, silver and other precious metal powder material, which are used for printing jewelry.

Others: In addition to the 3D printing materials described above, there are still color gypsum materials, artificial bone meal, cell biological raw materials, sugar and other materials.
