Heterocyclic Organic Compound
Description
trans-Zeatin is generally considered to be the most potent of all of the cytokinins. It is also adenine-based.
Synonyms
(2E)-2-methyl-4-(1H-purin-6-ylamino)-2-buten-1-ol; 6-(4-Hydroxy-3-methylbut-2-enylamino)purine
Molecular Weight
219.24 g/mol
Molecular Formula
C10H13N5O
Solubility
Minimum 10 mM KOH
Appearance
White to Beige Crystalline
Application
First isolated from corn, trans-Zeatin is considered to be the most potent of all the adenine-based cytokinins. Zeatin like other cytokinins promotes cell division, shoot proliferation and organogenesis, aids in the maintenance of the shoot apical meristem, disrupts apical dominance, and delays senescence.
