A one-dimensional ZnO nanowire/ferrocenyl alkanethiol array can be synthesized on a silicon substrate via self-assembly and low-temperature aqueous method. The ZnO NWs/FcC11SH/Si array was further immobilized with glucose oxidase to obtain GOx/ZnO NWs/FcC11SH/Si, which has excellent electrocatalytic activity for glucose, which can be used in clinical, environmental and food analysis. · Self-assembling of 11-ferrocenyl-1-undecanethiol A 30 nm Ti layer and 100 nm Au layer was deposited on the surface of silicon by thermal evaporation, respectively. The as-prepared substrates were immersed in a 10 mM ethanol solution of 11-ferrocenyl-1-undecanethiol (FcC11SH) for 24 h. After self-assembling, the electrode was rinsed with ethanol and deionized water several times. · Synthesis of ZnO NWs/FcC11SH/Si array ZnO seed layers were prepared by spin coating and then annealed at 350 ◦C for 30 min in ambient air for growth the NWs arrays. Zn (CH3COO) 2·2H2O, NH3·H2O were mixed in distilled water with a well stirred. Then put the above substrate with ZnO seed layer in this reaction solution for 2 h at 80 °C.
