Acid Yellow 99 is a common textile dye and therefore a common component of dye wastewater. In aqueous media, acid yellow dye 99 can be adsorbed by Aspergillus niger biomass, which may be a way for biomass to resist pollution. The results show that the maximum adsorption capacity of acid yellow 99 on biomass can reach 544.30 mg/g.

· The FTIR studies suggest that the carboxyl and amine groups are involved in intermolecular interactions for rapid and efficient dye adsorption.
· RSM analysis shows that the adsorption efficiency of ANB towards AY 99 is strongly pH dependent and the maximum adsorption (44.35 mg/g) occurs at pH 3.0.
· The experimental data can be well described by the pseudo-second order kinetic as well as Redlich-Peterson isotherm model.
· Thermodynamic study suggests that the present adsorption process is spontaneous, endothermic and entropy driven.
· Regeneration experiment reveals that AY 99 sorbed onto ANB can be successfully recovered in 0.1 M NaOH solution and four consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles can be carried out.

Photocatalysis is a widely reported contaminated water treatment technology for dye contaminants in textile wastewater. Photocatalytic decolorization of acid yellow 99 (AY99) dye involves the development of photocatalysts such as β-cyclodextrin(β-CD)-enhanced zinc oxide (ZnO). The photodecolorization of AY99 dye in ZnO-β-CD/visible system shows better photocatalytic decolorization efficiency than ZnO/visible system.

· β-CD traps holes on the surface of active ZnO, forming stable ZnO/β-CD inclusion complexes.
· β-CD forms an inclusion complex with AY99 dye molecules, causing indirect photodecolorization to become the main reaction channel.
· AY99 dye molecules enter the cavity of β-CD, and β-CD is connected to the ZnO surface in the equilibrium stage, absorbs light radiation and is excited. Electrons are rapidly injected from the excited dye into the conduction band of ZnO.
· Another important free radical in ZnO-β-CD illumination is superoxide anion radical (·O2-). The dye and dye cationic radicals then degrade.
