Photo Oxidation and Electro Oxidation Technology for Acid Brown 85
Bhaskar Raju G, et al. Water Practice and Technology, 2011, 6(1), wpt2011016.
Mineralization of acid brown 85 dye can be achieved to varying degrees by photo-oxidation or electro-oxidation techniques. Compared to electro-oxidation technology, Acid Brown 85 is almost completely mineralized through advanced photo-oxidation technology involving UV/O3/H2O2. However, electro-oxidation consumes 10-20 kWh/m3, while photo-oxidation requires 2500 kWh/m3. Therefore, electrooxidation followed by photooxidation may be economical for the treatment of dye-containing wastewater solutions.
Mineralization of Acid Brown 85
· The mineralization of C.I. Acid brown 85 by ozonation or by photolysis alone was found to be very marginal (5-10%).
· In the presence of UV/O3, the mineralization of C.I. Acid brown 85 was mineralized to the extent of 55%.
· The mineralization efficiency was increased by the addition of H2O2. Only 1.2 ppm H2O2 is required to achieve near complete mineralization of C.I. Acid Brown 85.
